Red Rock & Gold Rap – It’s neck and neck

We are two days into our Color War competition and only 50 points divides the teams. Our campers have been in heavy battle with basketball, soccer & baseball games. It didn’t stop there… they went head to head in BBG and kickball games. They were in the pool battling in a close game of water basketball. Pride is on the line and the stakes are high.

After this great day of competition, we all headed up the hill to see the long standing camping color war tradition we call ROPE BURNING & WATER BOILING. Both teams had fires going within a matter of minutes. It was so close and it looked as if Gold Rap was going to burn the rope first but at the last minute, the fire gave way and Red Rock won. Even though the points for rope burning went to Red Rock, Gold Rap brought home the win for water boiling. It was an exciting event and this night proved to hold our color war tradition strong.

Let the Games Begin

The weather was beautiful and the camp was in full swing of color war activities and games. The campers were dressed head to toe in their gold and red gear. Faces were painted, hair was sprayed and the spirit on camp was fierce. Our Gold Rappers were struttin’ their stuff and our Red Rockers were rockin’ it hard. Our kid captains were working hard, organizing their teams, and preparing for the five grueling days ahead.

The day started with Tugs of War for all our campers followed by and afternoon full of games. The evening was packed with mass games as our boys played mass softball and girls played mass BBG. After the mass games, it was off to contest night where each age group participated in a different relay race. Campers had fun bouncing on Hippity-Hops, cruising on Flying Turtles, and hopping in potato sacks. The evening finished with the traditional GC/Waiter basketball game that was enjoyed by the entire camp.

Despite receiving two clues today to help find the Color War Axe, both Red and Gold were unsuccessful in doing so, they will have to wait another day.

Our first day of color war was AMAZING and the campers are pumped for the next four days.

COLOR WAR 2009 BROKE OUT TONIGHT!!!!

Today started with a white stretch limo pulling into camp. The campers all knew that this was it. Color 2009 is breaking….. but as the music was playing throughout camp and all the campers were chanting.. 1234 we want color war…. They were FAKED out again. It was our junior camper, David Smolowitz that popped out of the limo, not the celebrity they had hoped it would be.

The day went on, and camp was buzzing. It was beautiful weather and the kids were out having fun. , and winning Wayne County Championships. Street Drum Corps was roaming around camp teaching the kids how to rock out on nothing but some empty garbage cans and old car wheels.

Next, it was time for evening activity. Street Drum Corps had their stage set ready to rock out. The Rec Hall was shaking as kids danced, chanted, and screamed with excitement as they saw the concert of a lifetime. The act ended with the kids up on their feet, wanting more music.

The curtain opened to a thunderous applause as Street Drum Corps gave an encore performance. The stage was lit by black lights and neon paint drenched the stage and flew into the audience. The buildup was intense, the drums got louder and louder, and faster and faster. The curtain opened to reveal an insane banner revealing that Color War 2009 was here. It will be Red Rock v. Gold Rap in this five day spirit filled adventure we call Color War!

It’s official COLOR WAR 2009 has begun. Get ready for madness. The best part of camp is finally here.

Another great day at C-A-W is in the books.

An Extreme CIT/Waits Surprise…It was off to the Dave Matthews Band Concert. AWESOME!!!

The day started off with a special coed lineup where a mystery poem appeared. Campers were told to scour the camp looking for giant letters. Campers were helped by our CITs and Waits in assembling the mystery letters into a clue. The clue read: “For the next clue go to the lake.” The campers were ready for breakout as our head counselors blobbed into the lake, but they got faked big time! The campers will have to wait.

It was 1:00pm and time for the CIT /Waits to leave on their mystery trip. They had no idea where they were headed and we had a blast faking them out. We began our journey at The Little Red Schoolhouse for a buffet lunch. After all our bellies were full, we loaded the buses again and off we went. It was straight to the Bethel Woods for the Dave Matthews Band concert. It was an amazing show and the campers loved it!! Our CIT/Waits work extremely hard and it was our pleasure to give them a night that they will never forget.

Our lower camp campers had a ball at Bingo. They won fantastic prizes including ice cream shakes and pizza parties for their bunks. Our upper camp campers rocked out with their own karaoke party.

Another fantastic day at CAW!!
