The staff experience at Camp Chen-A-Wanda is so much more than just a summer job. It may sound like a total cliche’, but working at camp will literally change your life. Our counselors are given the opportunity to truly understand what it means to be a part of something special. Our camp is structured around the greatest activities and facilities that one can imagine, but what sets us apart is our palpable camp culture and spirit that is embodied in the incredible people whom we hire every year.
Our staff members become walking testimonials after a summer spent at Chenny. Whether it’s reflecting upon the lifelong bonds that they’ve made with their campers, the once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to participate in our amazing and unique camp activities, trips and events, or the indescribable friendships they’ve made with other staff members from all over America, Canada, and countries across the globe, their stories are shared with their families and friends for the rest of their lives.
We attract staff members from all walks of life, but the bulk of our staff are made up of college students pursuing degrees and careers in education, sports management, park and recreation, and outdoor education. With that said, we attract dynamic, talented, amazing staff members from every imaginable college major and course of study. We aren’t just looking for experience in working with children (Which is welcomed and preferred, but most certainly not required), we’re looking for the leaders of tomorrow. We value confidence, patience, energy and creativity and we strive to provide our campers with a diverse staff full of personalities that will continue to buy into and build upon our contagious camp culture that is the best in the camping industry. Camp Chen-A-Wanda has been a life-changing experience for me. As a California kid, I never would have thought that a summer camp would ever pop up on my radar, but now having worked at camp for three years I can’t imagine what my life would be like without it. It’s an indescribable place where face paint is the norm, unbreakable friendships are born, and where every camper and counselor gets to feel like a hero at some point during the summer. Camp is a place so powerful that once you’ve experienced it, it stays with you for a lifetime.
