Welcome to Newsies, a Chenny Newsletter. Here, we will talk about all things Chenny. We will interview other campers, give you exclusive updates and much more. We will go day by day to give you camp insights from the point of view of campers at Chenny. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
Thursday: We all got to camp and it was alive in the 18465. We all got ready for spaghetti and meatballs on the first night, a Chenny tradition. But with old traditions, you have to start new ones. So we did just that, starting two new traditions Thursday night. First was making s’mores with your division, and second was burning ‘CAW’ in front of the iconic Fiddle Lake.
Friday: Friday marked the first full day of camp and a busy one at that. Everyone took their bunk photos and took the swim test. The evening activity was Round Robbin. Rond Robbin is where you do an activity assigned to your division such as Slip ’N Slide, Biddy City, etc. Saturday:
On Saturday, we all went to Shields Hall to party with Party Hardy. Shields Hall was rockin’ and everyone had a blast.
Sunday: On Sunday, the evening activity was a Chenny classic, the dating game. The dating game is three boys sit on one side of a wall and one girl on the other side of the wall or vice versa. Each of the three contestants are trying to win over the one contestant and it was a whole lot of fun.
Monday: On Monday, we had our first elective of the summer! An elective is when a camper gets to choose an activity for a period and it is so much fun. We also had our first sports games of the summer. First, CAW won a blowout basketball game 89-34. In freshman/junior baseball CAW crushed Westmont 13-1. Here are some headlines: Spencer Weinstein crushed an out of the park two run homer, the first by a junior ever at that field. Also Jacob Cohen pitched 4 innings of two run ball while chasing a cycle including an inside the park home run. In collegiate boys softball, CAW lost 1-0 with Chase Zigler getting their only two hits but despite the loss, they all had a great time. Monday night was also awards night. That night awards such as camper of the week, kind camper, kind counselor and specialist of the week were all handed out.
Tuesday: On Tuesday, we had the color run and 5K. After, we were sprayed by a firehose and enjoyed Kona Ice. That night was also Wifflecup. Wifflecup is a girlside vs boyside wiffleball game. Boyside emerged victorious 21-11 and took a 1-0 lead in the girls vs boys series.
Wednesday: On Wednesday, we had the camper talent show and it did not disappoint in Shields Hall.
Thursday: On Thursday, it was the 4th of July! From the BBQ to the firework show, it was a great celebration of ‘Merica! Thank you for reading, news from Friday will be in next week’s newsletter and remember life is great at camp Chen-A-Wanda!
